Paris Hilton is back for the Carl’s Jr. Texas BBQ Thickburger

Carl’s Jr. brings back Paris Hilton along with Hannah Ferguson to promote their Texas BBQ Thickburger. A great commercial can entice one to give a burger a try. However, I have done the taste test for you and can tell you if the Texas BBQ Thickburger is deserving of all the hype. I also reviewed the customer service provided to me at the Carl’s Jr. location where I got my burger. This review also includes detailed Nutrition Facts for all three versions of the Carl’s Jr. Texas BBQ Thickburger (the Single, 1/3 pound and the 1/2 pound)

Hannah Ferguson, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model and Texas native is the newest spokes model for the Carl’s Jr. Texas BBQ Thickburger. Hannah Ferguson will be joined by Paris Hilton who will have a cameo appearance. The new commercial is reminiscent of Paris Hilton’s 2005 “I Love Paris” commercial where she washed her black Bentley while sensually enjoying a burger. This time in the “I Love Texas” commercial it’s a bikini-clad Hannah Fergusons turn to wash her car while enjoying a Texas BBQ Thickburger. Paris Hilton pulls up to help, also wearing a bikini and says “You missed a spot”.

Customer Service Review

To try the Texas BBQ Thickburger sandwich I went to the drive-thru at the Carl’s Jr. at 9840 Carmel Mountain Road in San Diego, CA. The server was friendly and service was quick. I got my order and proceeded to the parking lot to take pictures and to try it while it was still hot.

However, when I took it apart to take pictures of the inside I noticed that there was very little BBQ sauce. I walked back in to have them add more BBQ sauce. I showed it to the cashier (the same guy that took my order in drive thru), he agreed that there was very little sauce and asked the cook to add more sauce. She complained that she had already put the correct amount on the sandwich before even looking at it. She went ahead and added more sauce and wrapped it back up. Because I was able to see the grill area from the counter I was able to see that she did not add anything extra to the sandwich. So, I was comfortable that it was safe to eat.

The other issue with this visit was that the fries were served cold and stale. I should have taken them back as well, but I was too focused on the lack of BBQ sauce to think of it at the time.

The Carl’s Jr. Texas BBQ Thickburger

The Carl’s Jr. Texas BBQ Thickburger comes in three sizes, the Single, 1/3 pound or the 1/2 pound. The Single is made from a 100% pure beef patty, while the 1/3 and 1/2 pound patties are made from Black Angus beef. The other difference is that the single uses their regular seeded bun while the 1/3 and 1/2 pound versions use their new fresh-baked bun. The rest of the ingredients remain the same for the three sandwiches with American cheese, Smoked Brisket, Mesquite BBQ Sauce and Crispy Fried Jalapeño & Onion Strips.

The Texas BBQ Thickburger Review

Let’s start with the misleading promotional photo for the Texas BBQ Thickburger. The photo shows the burger overflowing with brisket, Jalapeño & Onion Strips and BBQ Sauce. Well, in reality there was very little of any of these items actually on the burger. I did go back and ask for more BBQ sauce because it looked too dry otherwise. Here is a side by side photo so you can see what I mean.

The Texas BBQ Thickburger was not as spicy as I thought it was going to be. I liked the mild kick of the Jalapeño & Onion Strips. The American cheese was barely noticeable. The Smoked Brisket with the Mesquite BBQ sauce was very good. I just wish there was more of it. Overall, I found the Texas BBQ Thickburger to be a great tasting burger.

Twist up the Ultimate Cheeseburger with BBQ or Jalapeño Ranch

Twist up your favoritesJack in the Box has a new campaign of “Twist up your favorites” and what better way to twist up a favorite than to bring us two variations of their Ultimate Cheeseburgers with the BBQ Ultimate Cheeseburger and the Jalapeño Ranch Ultimate Cheeseburger. I will review and provide nutrition facts for these two new Ultimate Cheeseburgers along with the original Ultimate Cheeseburger and the Bacon Ultimate Cheeseburger.

I picked up my Ultimate Cheeseburgers from the Jack in the Box at 9337 Mission Gorge Road, Santee CA, 92071 over several visits. I like this Jack in the Box because I typically get good service and the food is served fresh and hot. My only issue at this location is that they do not always serve the complete menu. For example this location does not currently serve the Breakfast Monster Taco. I asked one time about another item they did not carry and was told that this was a training location. Not sure why that impacts the menu. Anyway, still a well-run store.

The BBQ Ultimate Cheeseburger

Jack in the Box BBQ Ultimate Cheeseburger

The BBQ Ultimate Cheeseburger is made with two beef patties, American cheese, Swiss-style cheese on a toasted sesame seed bun with BBQ sauce and grilled onions. Now I like BBQ sauce and grilled onions so I was expecting to really like this burger. However, I found it to be just ordinary. The BBQ sauce has a sweet flavor that was unimpressive. The grilled onions provided little additional flavor. It was not a bad burger, just not anything to get excited about.

The Jalapeño Ranch Ultimate Cheeseburger

Jack in the Box Jalapeño Ranch Ultimate Cheeseburger

The Jalapeño Ranch Ultimate Cheeseburger is made with two beef patties, American cheese, Swiss-style cheese on a toasted sesame seed bun with creamy ranch sauce and sliced jalapeños. The Jalapeños do provide a lot of spice while the ranch sauce helps to cool the burger down a little. This is not to say that this is not a spicy burger, because yes it is very spicy. I did like the Jalapeño Ranch Ultimate Cheeseburger.

Review of the McDonald’s Daily Double Cheeseburger

After watching the commercials for the McDonald’s new Daily Double cheeseburger, I had to try one. At first this looks a lot like one of my favorite McDonald’s burgers, the McDLT or the Big N’ Tasty. So I thought this has to be good. Here is my review of the McDonald’s Daily Double Cheeseburger.

What is a McDonald’s Daily Double

To try this burger I went through the drive thru at the McDonald’s on 2796 Main Street in San Diego. The service was quick and both drive thru employees were friendly. The Daily Double was served fresh and hot. At first I thought maybe I got the wrong sandwich as this looks to be the size of a McDouble not a Quarter Pounder. So I opened it up and yes this is the Daily Double. Basically you get a McDouble with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and larger onions replacing the mustard, ketchup and chopped onions. See the photos of the Daily Double both open and closed. As you can see everything looks fresh and looks very appetizing.
Review of the McDonald's Daily Double CheeseburgerReview of the McDonald's Daily Double Cheeseburger

Taste

So how did it taste? It was good, not great, but good. The extras did not add much to the taste to make this much better than a regular McDouble. It needed something with a little bite to it, maybe pickles or Big Mac Sauce instead of the mayo.

Value

My main issue with this burger is that I am not sure I agree with McDonald’s that this burger is an Extra Value Menu item at $1.99. When you can get a McDouble for half the price, it does not seem to be a value to pay double the price for some lettuce, a slice of tomato, some mayo and some fresh onions. If it is going to be on the “Extra Value Menu” it should have been $1.49 to be a value.

Nutrition

When it comes to Nutrition for the Daily Double is not bad when compared to the McDouble. The Daily Double has only 50 more calories at 440 calories and only 5 more grams of fat at 24 grams when compared to the McDouble. The protein at 23 grams and carbohydrates at 33 grams are the same as the McDouble. The real surprise is that the Daily Double is lower in sodium at 810 milligrams, 20 milligrams less than the McDouble. This may be due to the fact that the McDouble uses reconstituted onions and there may be extra sodium used as a preservative in those onions.

Summary

In summary, the McDonald’s Daily Double is a little better tasting than the McDouble. For nutrition it is only slightly worse than the McDouble, except for sodium where it is better. As to value, the Daily Double is not worth double the price of a McDouble.
