While watching the Super Bowl I saw the commercial for the new Carl’s Jr. Charbroiled Atlantic Cod Fish sandwich for the first time. I thought this looks pretty good. And no, it was not because of the girl in the bikini. I really did think this looks like a good sandwich and a great idea. Grilled instead of deep-fried, at least it should be healthier I just hope it tastes as good as it looks.
To find out if this sandwich was as good as it looked I went to the drive-thru at the Carl’s Jr. at 10009 Mission George Road in Santee, CA. The first thing they asked me was if I wanted to try the new Charbroiled Atlantic Cod Fish sandwich, and of course I did. My order was ready as I paid for my food at the window. The server was friendly and gave me my sandwich and fries hot and fresh. Now let’s find out what I got.
What is a Carl’s Jr. Charbroiled Atlantic Cod Fish Sandwich
Is it possible for a fast food sandwich to look better in person than on the in-store photos? In this case, YES. The in-store photos make it look more like a chicken patty than a fish filet. However, in the commercial the sandwich looks right, it’s just the in-store photos that do not do justice to this sandwich. Compare the photos. To the left is from the TV commercial, below is the in store photo that looks more like chicken and below that is a photo of what I was served.
The Carl’s Jr. Charbroiled Atlantic Cod Fish sandwich was made with a charbroiled Atlantic Cod filet that was chard nicely to give it a crispy outside and a fully cooked center. The lettuce was crisp and fresh. The tomato was ripe and red. However, much smaller than I thought it would be considering the photo. They should have used one large tomato slice or two smaller slices. Last is the tartar sauce that was just enough to add some additional flavor without overtaking the sandwich.
Does it Taste Good?
So it’s a great looking sandwich. But, how does the Carl’s Jr. Charbroiled Atlantic Cod Fish sandwich taste. This is one of the best fish sandwiches I have ever had at a fast food restaurant. Because it is grilled and not fried there is none of that greasy taste that you sometimes get with other fish sandwiches. Also, you taste the fish without it being fishy. The tartar sauce has a mild flavor that adds to the fish without being too tart. The tomato and lettuce add some texture that complements the sandwich nicely.
